The North Branch Police Department first learned of the threats around 6:40 p.m. Saturday night. In those verbal threats the 17-year-old suspect reportedly mentioned a planned shooting, although no specific date or time was mentioned.

After investigating, officers arrested the former student, who now attends a program called 'Pathways to Change' in nearby Chisago City. North Branch Police say the juvenile was not in possession of a firearm, nor do authorities believe he had access to one in the event he wanted to make good on his threats. Investigators are confident no one else was involved in the situation.

The teen remains in custody Monday.

The department plans to have extra police presence at schools throughout the week.
