Girl Scout injured in crash is out of the hospital

The Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes reported on Wednesday that the 10-year-old has been released from the hospital and is home with her family.

A GoFundMe was set up for 10-year-old Madalyn Zwiefelhofer after she survived a hit-and-run that killed three other Girl Scouts and the mother of one of them.

CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. - A Girl Scout who was struck and critically injured by a truck about a month ago is back home.

Three other scouts and the mother of one of them were all killed in the incident. The driver, 21-year-old Colten Treu, was charged with vehicular homicide after authorities said he inhaled chemical vapors prior to the crash.

A fifth victim, 10-year-old Madalyn Zwiefelhofer, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries. According to a GoFundMe set up for her, Madalyn had several broken bones and went through open heart surgery.

The Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes reported on Wednesday that she has been released from the hospital and is home with her family.

"We continue to be deeply grateful for the outpouring of concern, care, and support for members of our Council and the families impacted by the senseless tragedy in Lake Hallie," they said on their Facebook page. "Please join us in this moment of happy gratitude in wishing Madalyn and her family the very best in her continued recovery."

Autumn Helgeson, 10; Jayna Kelly, 9; and Haylee Hickle, 10, and her mother, Sara Schneider, 32, all died in the crash.
