A man was pulled from a vehicle that crashed into Lower Spunk Lake in Avon after suffering an apparent medical emergency.

AVON, Minnesota — A man is alive and recovering after good samaritans and a first responder pulled him from a car partially submerged in a central Minnesota lake.

Stearns County Sheriff Steve Soyka says it happened in Lower Spunk Lake in Avon Township Friday evening. A man driving a 2012 Chrysler 200 left Stearns County Road 9  shortly after 8 p.m., entered a ditch and hit a driveway approach. The vehicle then struck a raised garden and careened down a hill and into Lower Spunk Lake.

An Avon first responder and a number of good samaritans were able to help the driver from the vehicle, which was submerged up to its windows. He suffered no apparent injuries. Investigators believe the crash was triggered by a medical condition, and that distracted or impaired driving were not a factor.

The vehicle was pulled from the water by a tow truck.
