Couple forced to postpone wedding due to COVID-19

It's supposed to be the happiest day of your life: your wedding day! Now couples are making sacrifices during this worldwide crisis.

MINNEAPOLIS — A couple from central Minnesota is trying to make the best of a bad situation.

They posted an announcement on Facebook this week, telling their loved ones that they are cancelling their wedding, which is just 10 days away.

It's not easy hitting the pause button on a big event, but right now, thanks to the coronavirus outbreak, Lukas Inveiss and Katheryn Lundquist know they have to.

"It's been a quick roller coaster of emotions for sure," said Katheryn, who got engaged to Lukas 18 months ago.

Like any new fiances, these two lovebirds have planned every detail.

"We have the food, all of our RSVPs are in... 275 people!" said Katheryn.

"The last thing we did was send the seating assignments a couple of days before," said Lukas.

Now, everything needs to be cancelled, which as you can imagine, isn't easy.

"We officially postponed it last night and were going through that with the vendors this week. Some were great, other ones, they have to figure out what the options are," said Lukas.

The Facebook post from the couple, postponing their wedding

Beth Anderson, owner of KISMET event group, works with all kinds of vendors and says don't freak out!

"We are only a few weeks in and this is definitely new territory for all of us, so we're all trying to find the best way through it. And open communication and honest communication is the only way that its going to work for everybody," said Anderson.

As for advice from our happy couple to others facing a nuptial nightmare?

"Do what you can. Be organized, and I think be reasonable with the vendors because I feel for those people too, because a lot of them are small business owners," said Lukas. "So whatever it is, $1,000 here, $500 here, they are going to be in a really tough spot over the next three or four months."

"Our perfect wedding day will happen eventually but at least we are quarantined together," said Katheryn.

Some other great tips from our wedding expert Beth:

  • Reach out to the venue first and figure out their cancellation policies. Many of them are letting couples re-book within 2020.
  • Then reach out to all of the vendors you booked to see if a new date works for them as well. If it does, the majority of vendors will transfer deposits to that date.
