Health officials report nine more flu-related deaths

ST PAUL, Minn. — Nine more people have died from the flu in Minnesota, increasing the total to 67 this season, according to health officials.

In the Minnesota Department of Health's Weekly Influenza & Respiratory Activity Report, which is the report of the week ending Feb. 22, none of the deaths were pediatric deaths, however, two pediatric deaths have been reported this season.

According to the report, 366 people were hospitalized this week, bringing the total to 2,817 — already surpassing last season's total of 2,543 hospitalizations.

Officials say school outbreaks rose to 804 this season — 35 coming in the past week — and outbreaks at long-term care facilities is up to 70.

The flu is still being classified as widespread.
