GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Blood supplies tend to fall to critically low levels during the holidays. Yet medical conditions and emergencies that require blood don’t stop. Donated blood is needed for babies in the intensive care unit, accident and burn survivors, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease. There’s only one way to get lifesaving blood – generous donors like you!

Start a new tradition this New Year! Help restock hospital shelves and give blood January 9th during the Health Fair 11 Winter Blood Drive at KARE 11 studios at 8811 Olson Memorial Hwy in Golden Valley, Minnesota. (map) The American Red Cross will be on site 1 – 7 p.m.

Bring a friend - Do you know someone who has never donated before? Please encourage them to make an appointment with you. With just 3 out of every 100 people giving blood, there’s simply not enough people donating. Without more donors, patients will not have the blood they need. This is a great time for high school students, college students home on break and anyone who is looking for an important way to give back to the community. It doesn’t cost a dime to donate – just an hour of your time.

Make an appointment - Appointments are not necessary; however, donation times may be reserved by using this link: https://rcblood.org/2DJvzbR.

Speed up the donation process by completing the Red Cross Rapid Pass®.  To be valid, the Rapid Pass® must be completed on the day of your donation. Wondering what it takes to donate? Here’s a link to information on the blood donation requirements.

Need more incentive – how about a new TV?

As thanks, all who come to give will be entered in a drawing for a large Smart HDTV. Those who come to donate will also be treated to some sweet treats from Eileen’s Colossal Cookies, a coupon for a pint of Culver’s frozen custard, a coupon for Famous Dave’s BBQ  and a Red Cross long-sleeved T-Shirt, while supplies last.
