ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Como Zoo is welcoming a spindly-legged addition to its family.

An 8-day-old giraffe made her public debut on Wednesday. She may be a baby, but she's a pretty big one, at 5 feet 8 inches tall and 120 pounds. And she'll get a lot bigger - most giraffes double their height to over 12 feet tall in the first two years, and can end up as tall as 18 feet.

The calf was born Tuesday morning, Oct. 2. She's the eighth calf born to her mother, Daisy, and the 22nd giraffe birth at the Como Zoo in 24 years.

The zoo is looking for help naming the calf. People can vote on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram until Thursday, Oct. 18. The giraffe keepers and staff will pick three names and then zoo visitors can vote on those names using ballot boxes set up from Oct. 20-21.
