MINNEAPOLIS - Friends, family and many others are gathering to remember Jamar Clark.

MINNEAPOLIS - Friends, family and many others are gathering to remember Jamar Clark.

Clark would’ve celebrated his 25th birthday on Tuesday, May 3rd.

His family is hosting an event Tuesday at Harrison Park from 5 to 8 p.m. His sister, Tiffany Roberson, said the event will have games, music and activities for families. She said they partnered with NOC – Neighborhoods Organizing for Change and Black Lives Matter Minneapolis for the event.

Roberson said her family is trying to move forward and create new memories.

"A lot of stuff has been said and that is not who Jamar was," she told KARE 11. "We want to keep his name alive. We are taking things one day at a time."

She also made a plea to members of he community engaged in violent activities. She said recent headlines involving shootings on the city's north side have been troubling.

"Stop the violence. The gun violence is tearing the community a part. We want to do all that we can on our side to help make that stop. If I can plead to the young people today and tell them to stop, it's heartbreaking it's heartbreaking ... to see the downfall."

Clark was shot and killed last November. In March, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman opted not to charge two Minneapolis police officers in his shooting death.

The Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP is calling on Minnesota's attorney general to appoint a special prosecutor to reopen the Clark case. Some concerns include the takedown tactic used on Clark the night he was killed.
