WILLMAR, Minn - Families are mourning the loss of two young boys after they drowned in a western Minnesota lake late Tuesday.

Willmar Police say 10-year-old Idris Hussein and his 11-year-old friend Ahmed Hashi were reported missing around 6 p.m. Crews from Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office, Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad and Willmar Ambulance Service immediately started searching the area around the county fairgrounds.

A shoe was eventually found in the waters of Foot Lake, and around 10 p.m. crews located the missing boys submerged in shallow water.

They were pronounced dead at Rice Hospital.

Ahmed Hashi's mother said the two had been playing soccer together earlier in the day. She's not sure why they went to the lake. His mom told KARE 11's Boua Xiong that Ahmed was a great son, and her eyes filled with tears as she described how her heart is broken.

She was about to get him into swimming lessons.

Investigators say there is no apparent indication of neglect or foul play.
