WABASHA, Minn. - A southeastern MN man is dead after his vehicle collided with a school bus early Friday.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the crash happened near the town of Minnieska in Wabasha County just before 6 a.m. The victim, 27-year-old Travis Jacobson of Winona, was driving his Chrysler minivan northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 61 when he collided with a school bus head-on. The collision started the vehicles on fire.

There were no students on the bus.

Jacobson was dead on the scene. The driver of the bus, a 59-year-old man from Ellsworth, Wisconsin, suffered serious injuries. It is unclear at this point if alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident.

Highway 61 was closed for 4 1/2 hours while the accident was reconstructed and the roadway cleaned up.
