Explosion, fire damages 2 homes in New Hope

Images from Sky 11 suggest that the fire started in the garage of one home, and jumped to the roof of the house next door.

NEW HOPE, Minn — Two homes are significantly damaged after an apparent explosion led to fire on the southern border of New Hope Wednesday afternoon.

Fire rigs from a handful of west metro suburbs were dispatched to the 2700 block of Ensign Avenue North around noon. Images from Sky 11 suggest that the fire started in the garage of one home, and jumped to the roof of the house next door. Reports from the scene suggest it may have started with an explosion.

Damage to the first home is significant, with the garage gutted and a large portion of the living quarters impacted. Vehicles in the driveway are destroyed, little but metal skeletons. The adjacent house suffered damage to a section of roof and an outside wall.

At one point crews from West Metro, Golden Valley, Brooklyn Center and St. Louis Park Fire Departments were all working to put down the fire.

KARE 11 has crews on the scene and will have details as they become available.
