High water levels on some MN lakes & rivers

"I've lived around here 39 years and I've never seen it that high."

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. — Recent rain has caused high water levels in some lakes and rivers in the state.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office said Friday that all lakes and rivers in the county had high water levels. They have 'no wake' restrictions in place to prevent damage to shorelines.

There's also a 'no wake' restriction in place at Fish Lake in Maple Grove.

"The shorelines, there's really nothing showing at all. There aren't any rocks or anything like that. It's pretty much underwater," said Matt Robinson, who was fishing on the lake Saturday morning.

"If you're out trying to tube, that's not going to happen. Plus, the water is freezing cold," he said.

High water on Crystal Lake in Robbinsdale closed the boat launch, as water from the lake spilled into the lot.

"I've lived around here 39 years and I've never seen it that high," said David Bachler, who was biking around the lake Saturday.

The water is also up on the St. Croix River near Stillwater. The DNR lists levels there as being 'very high.'

The Lake Minnetonka Conservation District says levels aren't up enough to declare high water, but they still want people to take it slow to prevent the wake from eroding the shoreline.
