MN church celebrates Christmas in special way

Mindekirken in Minneapolis welcomes everyone to its bilingual candlelight service on Christmas Eve.

MINNEAPOLIS — If you go inside the Norwegian Lutheran Memorial Church in Minneapolis on Christmas Eve, you might not exactly understand what's going on.

That is, unless you speak Norwegian.

The church, also called Mindekirken, is the only church in the United States (and Canada) that has services every Sunday in Norwegian. Those special services continue, with a certain magic, over the holidays.

On Christmas Eve, the church holds a bilingual candlelight service at 4 p.m. There is also a Norwegian Festival Service on Christmas Day at 11 a.m.

There is Norwegian singing and liturgy, and many who attend services will wear their finest Norwegian clothes.

The church also holds services in English. You can learn more about Mindekirken here
