Sunrise News to Go: Tuesday, Dec. 11

Here's what you need to know going into Tuesday.

Local film critic resigns after newspaper discovers plagiarism

After more than 30 years, Colin Covert has resigned as the Star Tribune's film critic. The newspaper launched an investigation into Covert's reviews after discovering that particular phrases had been plagiarized from major publications, according to our partner station MPR. MPR reported that the editors of the Star Tribune posted an editor's note on its website showing which words and phrases were copied from publications like The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. The Star Tribune's editors apologized to its "readers, and to the writers and publications from which the material was taken."

Homeless camp move out begins Tuesday

Today, people will begin to move from the camp to a nearby heated shelter dubbed the Navigation Center on land owned the Red Lake Nation. The tent city has been plagued by drug overdoses and fires, often started by residents trying to cook or warm themselves. On Monday, some of the inhabitants of the camp started a bonfire and then piled coats and jackets on it, which fed the blaze. A young local boy donated his birthday to the encampment by asking for blanket donations instead of gifts. He will be delivering those gifts today, and you can find that story on the KARE 11 Sunrise page.
