NOAA predicts snowier than usual winter for Minnesota, Wisconsin

NOAA has issued its winter outlook for this year, and depending on how you feel about snow, you may want to pack your bags. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts that much of the "Northern Plains," including Minnesota, Wisconsin and the Dakotas, will see above-average precipitation for the winter of 2019-2020. For those who don't like snow, that could be discouraging. But at least temperatures are looking less dismal. That same Northern Plains region will see "equal changes" of relatively warm, cool, or average temperatures, while the rest of the country is looking warmer than normal. No region is predicted to be colder than normal.

Beloved nature center to close by end of year

If you went to school in the east metro or western Wisconsin, chances are, you've been on a school field trip to the Lee and Rose Warner Nature Center in Marine on St. Croix. This summer, the Manitou Fund, the foundation that supported the center announced they will not be renewing the partnership they had with the Science Museum of Minnesota. The museum had been running the nature center for more than 50 years. The center hosted around 10,000 students a year, and worked with schools from Minneapolis and St. Paul. The center will host a limited number of activities through the end of 2019.
