GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Life Time's CEO sees 'healthy living village' concept as wave of the future

The highly anticipated Life Time Health Club is now open at the old J.C. Penney site at Southdale Mall in Edina. The 200,000 square foot, multi-million-dollar health club is the 24th club founder and CEO Bahram Akradi has opened in the Twin Cities, and one in which he takes particular pride. Life Time Edina is the most expensive Life Time in Minnesota, both to build and to join. Membership costs $160 per month for singles and up to $330 for a family of four. Akradi says there's already a waiting list and that once the club is up and running it will attract three to four thousand people a day, which will give his other projects at Southdale Mall momentum as well. Akradi plans to add a co-working space and a three hundred unit luxury apartment building to the complex.

Free ways to keep your packages safe from "Porch Pirates" this holiday season

Those gifts you bought on Cyber Monday will be shipping and arriving on your doorsteps in just a couple of days, and studies show more than 35% of people have had a package stolen. So, what can you do to make sure that doesn't happen? There are plenty of gadgets and services you can buy, including video doorbells, lock boxes, and state-of-the-art security systems. But if you’re looking to save some money there are plenty of free options out there as well:

  • Write in specific instructions to the delivery service to hide the boxes behind a shrub, or some place they can't be seen from the street.
  • Have packages delivered to your workplace, or to a trusted neighbor.
  • If the items are coming from Amazon, have them delivered to a nearby Amazon locker, where you can pick them up.

If a package has been stolen from your home, there are ways to get your money or items returned, but as always... a pinch of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Public hearing scheduled one week out from Mpls. budget vote

A crucial conversation on how the City of Minneapolis should spend money will be hosted at city hall Wednesday. This evening's meeting is a public hearing, held one week before the city council votes on mayor Jacob Frey's proposed 2020 budget. The 2020 city budget includes money for hiring 14 new police officers. Eight officers would be designated for Neighborhood Outreach beats, 3 for a new traffic unit and 3 additional investigators to focus on domestic violence and sexual assault. When the mayor presented this plan back in August, community activists showed up in opposition, and brought the meeting to an abrupt end. Wednesday's hearing will be held in room 317 of the Minneapolis City Hall starting at 6:05 p.m. The more than 600 page proposed budget is available to read online.
