Arik Matson, the Waseca police officer who was shot in the head last week while responding to a 911 call, is progressing but "is still in the woods," according to an update posted on Facebook. Kaleb Hurley, Lead Pastor of Hope Church of Albert Lea — which Matson is a member of — said in a video post that the 32-year-old officer has been able to reply to people using a "thumbs up" or by squeezing fingers. Hurley added that Matson is stable, but his condition remains critical.
Snow plow drivers in St. Louis County are set to walk off the job Wednesday amid an ongoing labor dispute, just as another snowstorm is poised to move across parts of northern Minnesota. Members of the Teamsters Local 320 started picketing around 6:00 a.m. Wednesday. The union, representing workers in the county's Highway Maintenance Division, rejected the county's last contract offer on Saturday. The union and county have been unable to reach agreements on wages and benefits.
