As many of us finish our holiday shopping, police in Maple Grove are busy trying to catch thieves at stores.
Police Captain Adam Lindquist, said the city sees a spike in retail theft of between 20% to 35% during the holidays.
This year, the department is using mobile cameras placed outside of stores to try and catch thieves. Officers can see the videos from laptops in their squad cars, so they can monitor what's happening outside of stores.
"We want to provide a safe and secure environment for our citizens and our retail businesses to conduct business," said Lindquist.
This is the department's fourth year working a special initiative to combat retail theft during the holidays.
