MINNEAPOLIS - Renovations on Nicollet Mall could cost the city one of its most iconic statues, according to a report by Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

The sculpture of Mary Tyler Moore has been missing from its space outside the downtown Macy's since the street's renovation began earlier this year.

TV Land, a cable network owned by Viacom Inc., owns the statue and has put it in storage. Stave Cramer, president of the Minneapolis Downtown Council, said it is unclear if the network will return it to Nicollet Mall.

In 2001, TV Land placed the bronze statue of the actress twirling and throwing her hat in the air on Nicollet. The Mary Tyler Moore show ran for seven seasons and took place in the Twin Cities.

TV Land told Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal that they plan on returning the statue to Nicollet Mall in 2017 when the renovation is complete. Cramer said there will still need to be negotiations between the network and the city.
