Gala raises money for mental health funding in Minnesota schools

PrairieCare Child & Family Fund hosts its Night of Impact Gala on Feb. 15.

The PrairieCare Child & Family Fund is hosting its Night of Impact Gala on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Renaissance Marriott Hotel-The Depot to raise money for youth mental health resources in Minnesota schools.

Since 2017, PrairieCare Child & Family Fund awarded $360,000 to 17 schools across the state, but there is still a need for more. Among ninth graders, 18.1% reported self-harm in the last 12 months, according to the 2019 Minnesota Student Health Survey.

The funds raised at the gala will go towards providing educators with resources including mental health awareness, education, early intervention, suicide prevention and stigma reduction.

In 2019, grant requests totaled $1.3 million. This year, the organization aims to give at least $185,000 in youth mental health funding to Minnesota schools.

The event will feature entertainment from The Johnny Holm Band as well as speakers who will share their mental health journeys.

Grant applications are accepted until March 2 and are available at the Prairie Care Fund's website.
