Healthy recipe ideas for holiday entertaining

Here are two easy ideas for adding healthy options to your holiday parties.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Holiday parties are often filled with festive treats, but often they're not the healthiest choices; however, it is possible to include plenty of healthy options that are just as fun and tasty.

Life Time registered dietitian Julia Dugas visited KARE 11 News at 4 with two easy ideas: holiday spritzers and no-bake coconut bites.

Holiday-themed Wine Spritzers

OPTION 1:

  • Ice
  • 3 oz. red wine
  • 6 oz. Cran-Raspberry LaCroix
  • Sprinkle of frozen blueberries + orange slice and mint leaves on top

OPTION 2:

  • Ice
  • 3 oz. white wine
  • 6 oz. Peach-Pear LaCroix
  • 1 rosemary sprig, sprinkle of cranberries

Julia says you can also skip the wine and use unsweetened cranberry juice and Lacroix to make these into MOCKtails for kids.

No-Bake Coconut Bites

  • 1 ½ cups shredded unsweetened coconut
  • 5 dates
  • 2 Tbsp. coconut oil
  • 1 Tbsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips

OPTIONAL:

  • Crumbled peppermint
  • Peppermint extract

No baking required! You just combine everything and shape them into small bites with a spoon, add chocolate on top and freeze for 15-30 minutes.
