Local students working on health care cures

The American Heart Association is hosting its second annual Advancing Sciences STEM event at Target Field next week.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — The American Heart Association is hosting its second annual Advancing Sciences STEM event at Target Field on April 23.

A hundred and thirty local high school students will assemble to explore STEM outside the classroom and get a unique opportunity to “speed mentor” with local health care and tech professionals and leaders.

Bio-printing, or 3D printing of organs and tissues, is considered the health care future and one of the fastest growing sectors to watch. Local high schools are exploring the field thanks to a grant from the American Heart Association last year.

They’ll compete for a chance to win one of three grants - $5,000, $2,500 and $1,000 - for their schools’ STEM programs.

Tickets are available at www.AdvancingSciences.org for the student expo, grant challenge and panel discussion on Tuesday, April 23 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. Ticket sales benefit the American Heart Association.
