Warming up your interior spaces

It may be cold outside, but there are plenty of great ways to bring some warmth inside your home.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Katie Welch Len, Shoppes at Arbor Lakes Style Consultant, came to KARE 11 News at 4 to show viewers tips to strip the blahs from their bedroom, living room, office and more.

Here is a sampling of those tips and new digs to deplete the doldrums.

  • Bring in Life

It’s simple. Find a big beautiful vase and fill it with flowers or branches. Put it in a central spot. The greenery and color will lift your senses and your spirit! (Vase from Pottery Barn).

  • Stimulate the Senses

Our sense of smell affects our mood. What smells make you happy? Is it the beach? Green grass? Orange peel? Champagne? These scents and more are available to choose from while making a custom candle at Olfactory Scent Studio. This new store at The Shoppes at Arbor Lakes is crazy popular! The experience starts with smelling. As part of the process, guests list some of their favorite scents as they smell pre-poured uniquely scented candles.

  • Light it Up!

With daylight hours limited during the winter months, you have to find ways to bring in the light. We love these table lamps from Pottery Barn, which not only add light to your surroundings, but the lamp base and shade are so bright and cheery too.

  • Brighten Up Your Pillows and Accessories

Certainly, the roses and blooms outside won’t make an appearance for a while, but you can bring blooms and bright colors inside with these pillows and poofs from Cost Plus World Market. We also found lavender works beautifully to add green to a centerpiece or gather up a handful of colorful paper mâché eggs to place in a bowl for a bright and cheery look.
