ROBBINSDALE, Minn. — Two Twin Cities couples are celebrating the births of the first two sets of twins in the metro this year!

Melissa and Ben Mase, from Cologne, Minnesota, welcomed a set of twins just as the clock struck 2020.

George Winton was born at 11:44 p.m. at Ridgeview in Waconia, making him technically one of the last babies of 2019. But his twin sister, Remi James, joined him right at 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2020.

And that's not the only set of twins joining the world this New Year's Day.

Kayla LaPoint and Marquis Moore welcomed son Cayden Andre at 12:30 a.m. on Jan. 1, the first baby of the new year at North Memorial Health. But they weren't done yet - they welcomed Cayden's twin, Charlette Eloise, at 1:01 a.m.

Cayden weighs in at 5 pounds 7.8 ounces, and Charlette is 3 pounds 10.7 ounces.

LaPoint said she was not expecting her babies' birth to be such a big deal at the hospital.

"Everybody just seems super excited about it," said LaPoint.

LaPoint and Moore already have a 19-month-old son, Carson.

"They look nothing like their older brother and they look nothing like each other," LaPoint said with a laugh. "Even for being twins, he has like dark brown hair and she's like blonde, it's almost white."

All in all, the "first of the new year" accomplishment means much less to this Robbinsdale couple than something else.

"It was exciting," LaPoint said. "It was more of a relief, though, just to have them out and know they were OK."
