Going to the chiropractor

Some of the most common complaints heard from patients are low back pain, neck pain and headaches.

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. - When a lot of us think of going to the chiropractor, the traditional manual joint adjustments come to mind, but there is more than that.

“Therapies such as therapeutic ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, rehabilitative exercise – all of those things might be utilized,” says Barry Taylor, chiropractor at HealthPartners.

Taylor says the most common complaints he hears from patients are low back pain, neck pain and headaches. According to him, everyone's goal is different.

"Their goal might be running their next marathon, and other patients, their goal might be something more fundamental like picking up their grandchildren without back pain," he says.

When it comes to treating pain, Taylor says going to the chiropractor is just one tool to help you manage it and that it tends to be most effective when it's in conjunction with things like exercise.

What’s his biggest advice for us all to stay healthy?

"Add more movement into your day," he says. "Use those standing work stations, park at the back of the parking lot, take the stairs, go for a walk at lunch. All of that stuff adds up. You're going to have more energy, you're going to sleep better and you're going to have less pain."
