GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The Marine's Toys for Tots campaign gets underway Dec. 1 through Dec. 16.
Toys for Tots is a wonderful way to connect with the community and help out families during the holidays. Here are some answers to frequently asked questions about the Twin Cities Toys for Tots drive:
Where can I make a toy donation?
The tent at KARE 11 is open Dec. 1 through Dec. 16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. There are also many drop-off locations around town. You can also drop off a new unwrapped toy at Creative Kidstuff or Kowalski's and receive a Nickelodeon Universe Mystery Ticket (limit four per family). Click here to find other locations.
Can I donate money?
The Marine's Toys for Tots website does accept online money donations.
How can my group sign up to make a donation during a KARE 11 newscast?
All of the spots for 2018 are filled. Next year sign up early and your group can appear on a KARE 11 newscast to present toys.
How can I volunteer?
If you would like to volunteer at the warehouse, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
How do I sign up to receive toys?
Where is the warehouse located for the 2018 Toys for Tots Campaign?
The Toys for Tots warehouse is located at 801 SE 9th Street, Minneapolis MN 55414.
What is an acceptable donation?
The Marines accept new unwrapped toys. Some examples are Nerf Guns, action figures, dolls, baby toys, puzzles and non-realistic looking weapons. They do accept home made toys, but ask that they are safe and free of sharp edges and small items that could be swallowed or otherwise injure the children that receive these donations.
Toys are distributed to kids from 0 - 15 years old. Typically, there is a shortage of toys for infants and teenagers.
Gift cards are accepted, but are not distributed as gifts. The Marines take donated gift cards and purchase gifts for the program.
How can my child receive a toy?
Families need to contact a distribution agency working with Toys for Tots. For a list of agencies click here.
Only toy requests by family members with custodial responsibility are normally approved, other requests are considered on a case by case basis. The age limit is 15 years old.
A child may only be registered through one charity organization. Multiple registrations by different family members, at different locations, are not allowed.
How do I get a receipt from my donation?
A receipt/combination letter will be provided to the donators who's name appears on the donation check ONLY. This will be issued sometime in Jan/Feb of the following Calendar year, by the corporate office in Virginia, NOT by the local office. We are not legally allowed to provide any receipt to anyone.
If you host a charity fundraiser event and collect donations from it in the form of checks and the checks are addressed to Toys for Tots/Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and then turned into the local office(us) the above applies.
If you have donations made out to a person/company who then processes those donations into a check made payable to Toys for Tots/Marine Toys for Tots Foundation then a receipt will be issued to the name on the check only.
If by chance your receipt issue is concerned for business deductions/proof to the IRS, the Foundation's policy is that it would be your responsibility to prove-just like every American tax payer has to on their individual claims.
How do I become a Toy Distribution Agency?
Registration is open from October 1, 2018 and will run until December 20, 2018 at 2:00pm.
To become a Distributor (agency) you must complete the form on www.toysfortots.org. Agencies are required to have a 501(c)3 Tax ID number and must be located in Anoka, Carver, Chisago, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey, Scott or Washington county. Visit www.toysfortots.org for full details.
