Pedestrian dies three days after being struck by car in south Minneapolis

The woman was hit and severely injured at the intersection of Lake Street West and Pleasant Ave. South just after 9 a.m. on Friday.

MINNEAPOLIS — A woman, who was hit by a car in south Minneapolis Friday morning, has died, according to Minneapolis police.

The woman, who was later identified as Maria Alvarado, suffered "grave injuries" after being struck by a car at the intersection of Lake Street West and Pleasant Ave. South just after 9 a.m. on Friday. Alvarado, 54, was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she died three days later. 

The driver, an adult male, remained on the scene and is cooperating with officials. Police say there is no indication that the driver was impaired.

The victim's name and cause of death will be released at a later date.
