Police make second arrest in connection to death of Rogers High School student

After first identifying three men as "people of interest" in connection to Yaseen Johnson's shooting, Plymouth police are now calling them suspects in the case.

Plymouth police make arrested in connection to death of Yaseen Johnson

PLYMOUTH, Minn. — Plymouth Police say a second person suspected of being involved in the shooting death of high school student Yaseen Johnson has turned himself in.

According to police, the 19-year-old from Plymouth was booked for probable cause murder at the Hennepin County Jail after turning himself in on Thursday night.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, an 18-year-old was arrested in Golden Valley and also booked on probable cause murder in connection to Johnson's death.

A third person, a 19-year-old from New Hope, is still wanted by police.

On Thursday, Nov. 17, Plymouth Police identified the three men as "people of interest" in their investigation into 17-year-old Yaseen Johnson's killing. In an updated press release shared on Friday, police called them "suspects" in the Nov. 14 shooting.

Police are working to identify the connection between Johnson and the three suspects.

The gun used in the shooting has not yet been recovered.

On Monday, Nov. 14, Plymouth police responded to an apartment complex on the 9700 block of 37th Place North for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they located a teenager, later identified as Johnson by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office, shot and killed inside a vehicle.

On Tuesday, a spokesperson for Rogers High School confirmed that Johnson was a student there and provided the following statement:

"ISD 728 was shocked and saddened early this morning to hear about the tragic death of one of our students last night.

We are currently supporting staff and students with our crisis response team, which includes counselors and extra staff, and are communicating support information to our high school families.

We are also providing any support we can for the victim’s family at this time. Additionally, we continue to work with local law enforcement however we may assist in the active investigation."
