ST. PAUL , Minn.- A teen hospitalized after crashing a stolen car during a police chase Tuesday night in St. Paul has died.
St. Paul Police spokesman Sergeant Paul Paulos told KARE 11 that officers spotted a vehicle driving erratically around midnight, and soon learned it had been reported stolen. They attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled.
They soon found the car crashed at the intersection of Wood and Robert Streets. The driver, who police identified as 15-year-old John McAfee of St. Paul, was taken to Regions Hospital, where he later died.
McAffee was the only person in the car. The officers tried to stop him and used lights and sirens but he drove away, passing other cars and going into opposite lanes of traffic.
The officers involved in the chase have been placed on administrative leave, as required by department policy.
