ST. CLOUD, Minn. — A man is dead after a train struck his vehicle as it sat stuck on the tracks in Sherburne County early Wednesday.
Sheriff Joel Brott says it happened around 2:45 a.m. on the 3400 block of U.S. Highway 10 just south of St. Cloud. Witnesses told responding deputies that they saw the four door vehicle stuck on the railroad tracks, and the driver rocking back and forth trying to get it free before the train approached and hit it. The vehicle immediately burst into flames on impact.
The train was traveling westbound at 50 miles per hour and the engineer was unable to stop in time.
Sheriff Brott says the driver of the vehicle will be identified once family is notified.
