Man rescued after large tree crushes home in Buckhead

It happened just before 7 a.m. off Old Ivy Road NE in Atlanta.

ATLANTA — First responders rescued a man trapped by a tree that fell onto his home Monday morning. Authorities said it took 40 minutes to get the man out safely. The incident happened just before 7 a.m. off Old Ivy Road NE in Buckhead.

Fire officials said a 47-year-old man became trapped under a car when the tree fell. Two other people were in the home at the time the tree fell and they called 911.

The large tree smashed the roof of the home causing extensive damage. The bedroom above the garage where the tree fell took a direct hit.

Firefighters are looking into how the incident happened and if recent weather conditions caused the tree to fall.

"This is something that we look for when we have a lot of precipitation, especially freezing precipitation. I don't know if we had that much stick today," said firefighters at the scene.

The grounds remained extremely saturated following the snow and rain over the past two days. The area is under a wind advisory until 7 p.m. Crews were out across the state on Sunday handling calls for trees and powerlines down.

First responders say that the man is in stable condition.
