Lines wrap around the block for Hamilton tickets

Fans were out and ready to try and score Hamilton tickets Thursday morning.

MINNEAPOLIS - It's the biggest show to hit Minneapolis in the past few years and on Thursday, fans finally got their chance to snag tickets.

"Hamilton" heads to the Orpheum Theatre for performances from Wednesday, Aug. 29 to Sunday, Oct. 7. And fans are pumped.

Lines wrapped around the block outside the State Theatre Thursday morning, as more than 200 Hamilton hopefuls waited to get their shot.

The production announced previously that it would give fans a fighting chance online to score tickets to the show, without having to compete with those pesky scalpers and bots.

In a press release issued last Monday, the Hennepin Theatre Trust announced that Hamilton fans hoping to be in the room where it happens can register to become a Ticketmaster Verified Fan -- a program designed to separate the "actual, human fans from bots."

The system tries to remove those attempting to take tickets away from fans and level the playing field, though it doesn't guarantee tickets.

Those registered to be a verified fan received an email from Ticketmaster on Wednesday, June 20, if they have been selected for the Verified Fan sale. Those tickets are available for online purchase only.

There is a maximum of four tickets per household.

Tickets range from $79 to $199.

There will also be a lottery for 40 $10 orchestra seats for all performances. Details about that lottery will be announced as the performance dates get closer.

The Hennepin Theatre Trust states a "very limited number" of tickets will be available at the State Theatre Box Office starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 21. Tickets will not be available by phone.
