BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - A man with three previous convictions for driving while intoxicated has been arrested again, this time with a young child on his lap while plowing snow with a front-end loader in Bloomington.
A witness told police the man just left a gas station around 11 p.m. last Friday and appeared intoxicated. The witness said they also saw a young child in the vehicle.
Police located the CAT loader in a parking lot in Edina and spoke with the driver. Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol on the man, identified as 31-year-old Robert James Stertz, of Eagan. They also noticed a 5-year-old girl in the vehicle.
Stertz was given a preliminary breath test at the scene which registered a .10 BAC. A criminal complaint also notes he failed several field sobriety tests.
Stertz was charged with DWI.
He has three previous convictions for DWI -- in January 2006, May 2008 and October 2012.
