Meet new leader of FBI in Minneapolis

"The number one threat we face as a nation, to include this area, is the threat of the homegrown violent extremist," said Special Agent Jill Sanborn.

MINNEAPOLIS - The FBI office that oversees Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota has a new leader. Special Agent Jill Sandborn spent much of her career working in counter-terrorism.

"I still remember 9/11 like it was yesterday and individuals jumping out of those buildings and I have a strong, personal desire to not ever let America go through that again. I'm very passionate about the intelligence and our ability to gather the intelligence and use that to defeat those threats," said Special Agent Sanborn.

She also led the team investigating the San Bernardino attack in 2015.

"The number one threat we face as a nation, to include this area, is the threat of the homegrown violent extremist," said Special Agent Sanborn.

Sanborn says she believes the key is to engage the public.

In her first two months, she has met with the FBI Citizen's Academy and the Somali community in hopes of building relationships, trust and counter-terrorism education.
