WOODBURY, Minn. -- The general manager of Nadia Cakes in Woodbury could star in her own television show.
Erin Campbell competed against a dozen other contestants on Food Network's "Food Network Star," which premieres May 22.
Campbell is no stranger to the network; the pastry chef won "Holiday Baking Championship" in 2014. The network then approached her about applying for "Food Network Star." But this time, the spotlight was on her cooking chops.
"It was one of those opportunities to go outside my comfort zone, try something a little bit different and why not?" she said.
That attitude brought her to Minnesota from California in the end of 2014. While Nadia Cakes started in California, the Woodbury location is now its flagship store. Nadia Cakes is also located in Maple Grove.
"I realize how huge this is. When I opened this shop, I was 24 years old. And to know that this is my shop and I was 24... it's pretty awesome," Campbell said.
Campbell, now 25 years old, was 24 at the time she competed in "Food Network Star," making her the youngest competitor.
"You kind of get thrown in and it's almost baptism by fire. You have mentors who are top of the line. The caliber you cannot beat. You have Bobby (Flay) and Giada (De Laurentiis) staring at you. You're sweating like a crazy person, running around trying to get everything done," she said.
Even though Campbell cannot talk specifics about her time on the show, she said, "If I was to have the show, I would get the kids back in the kitchen with their parents. Just learning the basics."
She went on to say, "Win, lose, doesn't matter. I was on 'Food Network Star.'"
"Food Network Star" premieres Sunday, May 22 at 8 p.m. Central time. The finale will air July 31 and will feature all the contestants.
