MnDOT reports dozens of crashes on snowy roads

The Minnesota Department of Transportation listed 74 crashes and stalls from about 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - MnDOT responded to dozens of crashes across the metro as snow continued to fall on Sunday evening.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation listed nearly 75 incidents of crashes and stalls in the metro area from about 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday.

Across the whole state, the Minnesota State Patrol responded to 132 crashes and 75 spinouts from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The state patrol says 13 crashes involved injuries, and one in St. Peter had serious injuries. There were no fatalities.

One accident involving 20 vehicles stopped westbound traffic on Highway 55 at the Mendota Bridge. MnDOT said there were no serious injuries or fatalities.

Snow was expected to continue until about midnight. At about 8:30 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service Twin Cities issued a statement saying, "Numerous accidents are occurring this evening as roads continue to become slick after sunset. Slow down and be prepared to encounter icy patches if traveling tonight."
