BRAHAM, Minn. - The mother of a 2-month-old baby is charged in the child's death, after autopsy reports showed the infant died of blunt force head injuries.

Shy Ann Hentges, 24, told police she forcefully threw the baby boy into his crib, causing his head to hit the wall. Hentges sobbed as she told investigators she was "exhausted and just wanted to get back to bed and sleep," according to the criminal charges.

Hentges told police after the child hit the wall, he fell down into the crib. She repositioned the child in the crib and went back to bed, according to the complaint.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on April 5, 2017.

An autopsy report showed the infant suffered rib fractures and at least two skull fractures. The Midwest Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide.

Hentges is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter.
