Police investigate connections to NE Mpls. shooting

Another armed robbery happened just eight blocks away - near Grumpy's Bar in Northeast Minneapolis - during that same time frame.

MINNEAPOLIS - Minneapolis police are investigating other armed robberies, looking for connections to the shooting Friday night of a local musician in northeast Minneapolis.

After three surgeries, Aaron "Hix" Lee is doing better in the hospital, according to updates on his GoFundMe page.

Lee has swelling in his leg where the robber's bullet came to rest after traveling through his gut.

Already, more than $45,000 has been raised for medical bills.

Hix's boss at Pizza Nea, Mike Sherwood, says he's likely looking at three weeks or more in the hospital.

Hix was shot after handing over his wallet on the corner of 13th Avenue and 4th Street Northeast at about 10:30 Friday night. His band, Red Daughters, was going to take the stage next at the 331 Club.

"I was stunned. First of all that it happened. Then where it happened and who it happened to," Sherwood said.

And now, KARE 11 has confirmed another armed robbery happened just eight blocks away - near Grumpy's Bar in Northeast Minneapolis - during that same time frame.

A robbery near Grumpy's Bar on 22nd Avenue NE and 4th Street NE happened around the same time as the robbery and shooting of a local musician near the 331 Club on 13th Avenue and 4th Street NE, KARE 11 has confirmed.

In a Facebook post, the victim writes he believes it happened just before Hix was robbed and shot - and the suspect jumped out of a white SUV, just like in the shooting.

Despite this high-profile case, Minneapolis police tell KARE 11 that armed robberies as a whole are at their lowest numbers ever.

There are two fundraisers planned for Hix. One is Tuesday night at the 331 Club, and the other is Friday night at Pizza Nea.
