Police respond to car in building, find man fatally shot

Reports of a crash led officers to discover that the driver of a vehicle had been shot.

Police responded to reports of a vehicle that had crashed into a building, but when they arrived in northeast Mpls. they discovered that the driver had been shot.

MINNEAPOLIS — An incident that started with a car crash in northeast Minneapolis Tuesday evening has morphed into a homicide investigation. 

Minneapolis Police say they responded to the intersection of Central Avenue and NE 14th Avenue in Minneapolis after reports of a car that crashed into a building. Officers who reached the scene soon found the driver of that vehicle had been shot.

First responders took over life saving efforts from bystanders who had jumped in at the scene. The victim was then transported by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center where he died from his injuries. 

Police set up a perimeter and used a K9 unit in an effort to track suspects, but none were located. They did locate what is believed to be the shooting scene at 14th Avenue Northeast and Tyler Street. Officers spoke with a number of witnesses who were in the area at the time of the shooting.
