Burglars target more communities, police get proactive with homeowners

Roughly 30 agencies are investigating a suspected burglary ring throughout the metro.

Police say three more communities are victims of a burglary spree throughout the metro.

The targets include Roseville, Golden Valley and Minnetrista.

In Roseville along Cohansey Street, two cars were stolen.

"Pro's is what it seems like if it's continually happening," said neighbor Eric Buringrud.

He's now taking no chances.

"Car doors are locked every night and we are locking the car and door from garage to the house. Just anything you can do. Just don't give them the opportunity," said Buringrud.

The opportunity police say it what these burglars are looking for.  Investigators say roughly 30 agencies are looking into this suspected burglary ring.

Officers have been warning people and now West Hennepin Police is now taking a proactive approach.

Reserve Office Titus Winger was out going door to door Wednesday handing out crime alert flyers.

"Main thing is to lock our doors," said Winger to a homeowner.

Sgt. Rick Denneson hopes this will help get the word out and prevent these burglaries.

"We need to use whatever tactics we can to protect our community," said Denneson.

West Hennepin Police plan to continue their door-to-door campaign until every community is covered.

In Big Lake, police have also taken a proactive approach since four burglary reports in early June. During the night shift, patrol officers walk their beats and observe homes and cars to make sure they're locked and secure.

"This crime happens anywhere at any time," Captain Matt Hayen said. "So, it's still important people keep their vehicles locked, front doors locked, garages locked, everything secure."
