Prisoner injures 4 officers, MN prison locked down

The DOC says an officer was punched in the face by an inmate in the dining hall. When other officers responded to help, three of them were also injured.

FARIBAULT, Minn. - Four corrections officers were injured by an inmate at Faribault prison on Monday, according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC).

A DOC spokesperson says at about 11:30 a.m., an officer was punched in the face by an inmate in the dining hall of MCF-Faribault. When other officers responded to help, three of them were also injured.

The inmate was put in restrictive housing and the facility was locked down, according to the DOC. The four injured officers were brought to the hospital for further evaluation.

A source tells KARE 11's Lou Raguse that a female guard broke her eye socket when she was punched by a 47-year-old inmate.

"Today’s incident will be fully investigated, and the offender responsible will be held accountable under the law," said Sarah Fitzgerald with the DOC. "Our highest priority is the safety of our corrections officers and all individuals at our facilities."

As of Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., Fitzgerald said the officers had been released from the hospital.
