MINNEAPOLIS - Jimmy Butler has been given permission to miss the Timberwolves media day on Monday, according to a report from the Athletic.

The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski says sources also told him that Butler will not be available for the beginning of training camp.

The news comes after the NBA superstar and Wolves veteran guard Butler reportedly requested a trade from the team.

Krawczynski first reported from his sources that Butler told Thibodeau he does not intend to sign a long-term extension with the Wolves next summer and wants to be dealt. He reportedly provided a list of one to three teams with which he would be open to signing a long-term deal, sources said.

Butler led the Wolves to their first playoff appearance in 14 seasons. He averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists in nearly 37 minutes per game last season.
