BLAINE, Minn. - It wasn't the size of the crime, but the violation of seasonal spirit that made catching two young men responsible for the theft of a red kettle so important.
Blaine police announced Friday that the suspects caught on camera stealing an unmanned Salvation Army collection kettle have been arrested and are facing charges in the incident, which came to light Dec. 5.
A department spokesperson said that arrests were made based on one of hundreds of tips police received after posting photos and a video of the men. A post on the Blaine PD Facebook page was viewed more than 1.3 million times.
The video showed what appeared to be the suspects cutting the red kettle free outside of the Northtown Cub Foods and running away with it. Police also released a photo of a suspect vehicle, a silver or grey Chevy Trailblazer.
It's expected that charges will be filed against the two in Anoka County Friday or Monday.
