ST. PAUL, Minn. - Controversial St. Paul City Council candidate David Martinez was arrested yet again Thursday night -- marking his second arrest in one week but at least fifth arrest since announcing his candidacy.

St. Paul Police say Martinez was taken into custody at approximately 5:30 p.m. Thursday for violating an order for protection while on the Hamline University campus.

He also told authorities he was taking a firearms class, which required him to possess a gun -- another violation of his order of protection.

This marks the second time this week Martinez was arrested for violating the order of protection taken out by his estranged wife, who filed for the order alleging abuse. He is currently under orders by a judge to stay away from her and their kids.

Martinez was arrested on Tuesday after showing up to his kids' school, in an attempt to see them. School officials contacted the police and he was taken into custody after being located at a nearby coffee shop.

And this only marks the most recent of Martinez's run-ins with law enforcement. Earlier this summer, Martinez was charged with two misdemeanors related to an incident at a Twins game. According to the criminal complaint, officers responded to a report of a person refusing to leave the game and when they arrived, they found Martinez struggling with three to four security officers.

He was also cited with disorderly conduct on July 5 at the St. Paul Library. Police say he was screaming obscenities at library staff.

Following that incident, Martinez was arrested then released from jail without being charged for posting a topless photo of his estranged wife on his campaign website.
