11 dead, 5 missing after Missouri duck boat sinks in stormy weather

At least 11 people, including children, died after a boat carrying tourists on a Missouri lake capsized and sank Thursday night, the local sheriff said. Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader said five people remain missing and seven others were hospitalized after a Ride the Ducks boat sank on Table Rock Lake in Branson. Rader said the stormy weather was believed to be the cause of the capsizing. Another duck boat on the lake was able to safely make it back to shore.

Cleanup begins after tornadoes rip through central Iowa

After two dozen tornado reports yesterday in central Iowa, the extensive cleanup process begins today. Reports say up to 17 people have been injured, but no deaths have been reported.

Suspect detained in killing of Olympic figure skating star

Authorities in Kazakhstan said Friday a man has been detained and confessed to killing the Olympic figure skating medalist Denis Ten. Prosecutor Berik Zhuyrektayev said in a televised statement that Nuraly Kiyasov "confessed his guilt in the presence of an attorney" while being questioned over the 25-year-old figure skater's death.

Mega Millions up to $422M, sixth-largest ever, for drawing on Friday

The Mega Millions jackpot has soared from $375 million to $422 million for Friday night's drawing after no one matched all six numbers Tuesday night. It will rank as the sixth-largest Mega Millions jackpot of all-time and the 19th largest pot for any lottery game played in the U.S., including Powerball.
