Survey says many Americans struggle with long-term credit card debt

The survey also says that Millennials are the generation most concerned about credit card debt.

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — A new survey from creditcards.com claims that a majority of Americans with credit card debt have had their debt for at least a year. 

56 percent of debtors who were surveyed have lived with credit card debt for at least a year, according to the survey.

37 percent of debtors have had their credit card debt twice as long - for two years. 

Many of the surveyed participants said they have credit card debt because an emergency came up. 63 percent of debtors cited issues with necessary spending for things like car repairs and child care. 

The survey says that Millennials are the generation most concerned about credit card debt, with 63 percent of Millennials saying they are stressed out about debt. 

Baby Boomers are the generation least worried about credit card debt, according to the survey.
