MINNEAPOLIS - Twin Cities in Motion is making some changes to Wednesday's "Red, White & Boom!" races due to the expected heat and humidity.

TCM announced Monday that it has canceled the half marathon. Race registrants have the option to run one of two shorter distances; the 5K or 6.75-mile. The 5K is taking place as scheduled and the two-person relay will be modified due to course changes.

Half-marathon participants are receiving credit for future TCM events.

TCM says it will not offer prize money or age-group awards for the remaining Red, White & Boom! races. Organizers say they want runners to slow their pace and don't want to encourage competitive racing in the expected conditions.

TCM's color-coded Event Alert System (EAS) is expected to be Red (Extreme Caution) at the start of the events. Click here for more information.

KARE 11's Jeff Edmondson says the expected high on Wednesday is 93 with a heat index around 100.
