U of M program refurbishes and sells abandoned bikes

The U of M's ReUse Program sold more than 100 abandoned bikes, starting as low as $50.

MINNEAPOLIS — A long line of people in Minneapolis Saturday morning waited to get a refurbished bike for cheap.

The U of M's ReUse Program sold more than 100 abandoned bikes, starting as low as $50.

"Sometimes we call them snowbank bikes, because they spent the winter in a snowbank. So, instead of just throwing them away and discarding them, we repair all of these bicycles, because we all know that we have to use the stuff we have," said Todd Tanner, with the U of M's ReUse Program.

The program partners with bike shop, Mr. Michael Recycles Bicycles, to rehab the bikes so they're ready to use again.

The next refurbished bike sale will take place Labor Day weekend.
