EVANSTON, Ill. — After a week of uncertainty, Minnesota quarterback Tanner Morgan has been cleared from concussion protocol and is expected to start today against Northwestern.

University of Minnesota sources say that Morgan, who was injured late last week in the Gophers' 23-19 loss to Iowa, will play.

The red-shirt sophomore has played a key role in Minnesota's success this season, throwing for 2,468 yards and 22 TDs, and was recently named one of 16 finalists for the Davey O'Brien Award, which is given to the nation's top college quarterback.

Morgan has thrown for 707 yards over the past two games and now has three 300-yard passing games this season.

The 11th-ranked Gophers play Northwestern today at 11 a.m. at Ryan Field.
