MINNEAPOLIS - First base is hardly even cold yet following the retirement of Twins legend Joe Mauer, and yet Monday the ball club made a move to fill the empty hole in their lineup.

The Twins announced that they have claimed first baseman C.J. Cron off waivers from Tampa Bay. Last season the 6-foot-4 inch, 235 pound Cron played in 140 games for the Rays, hitting 30 home runs and driving in 74 runs, with a batting average of .253.

Cron was originally drafted in the first round of the 2011 Major League Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He has played in parts of five major league seasons with the Angels and Rays.
